In my hotel room in downtown Auckland
I fall sleep looking up at the stars
and within moments I'm standing on air
with 7 old wise men, very regal, quite near
They stand in a V shape wearing beautiful robes
akin to our velvet in dark blues, reds and greens
but around their own temples I see ancient symbols
on old, ancient faces you'd see on great halls
The 2 in the center now conjure together
creating a tree made of silver and gold
and soon it starts spinning away from them all
and moves towards me like a slow spinning ball
I'd heard about trees in the Garden of Eden
the Tree of Knowledge and the Tree of Life
but as this one here is coming towards me
I wonder why I'm filled, with such panic and strife?

101. Pigeon Dove
I start to drift off when all of a sudden
a fat speckled pigeon of white and of black
lands right in front of me and eyes me a smile
I smile back at this cute little thing
with its red eye liner preening its wings
and then does it come to me this little bird
is another new waka or another merkabah
My partner beside me is stricken in bed
with a very sore throat and a very sore head
so as a small person I see myself climb
onto the back of my new feathered ride
"Take me to fetch a cure" I say
and instantly fly way over the moon
We soar and we glide past planets and stars
setting down at the feet of the great Jehovah
A vision of garlic now comes to me
and two simple words are spoken aloud
I'm now with my partner back in my bed
mumbling "Eat garlic" and saying "Be, well"

82. Rongomaraeroa
Rongomaraeroa as old as the Universe
sits on my puku (stomach) looking up at the Sky
Like the Moon which shines and glimmers at Night
so too does her hair sit about her own shoulders
And as Brown as the Earth or the feathers of Kiwi
does a korowai dress her beautiful body
And peace and serenity she brings me this night
for a father and son who are strangers no more...

74. The Stone People
Two huge monsters made of stone
look up at me laughing, smiling
They command their minions to come at me
as rocks and boulders fly at my head
I take refuge between the slabs
and kick them out and see them fall
They land apon my enemies heads
but elicit laughs instead of dread
And all of a sudden the sky is dark
as a big black hole does cloak the World
The giants roar 'The Mother's here'
and I am caught on an updraft wind
Sucked into space, beyond the Moon
beyond the Stars and the Milky Way
I astral travel far and wide
right to the limits of Father Time
At attention, facing outwards
he guards the limits of our space
Ensuring us of our own safety
from life beyond our own continuim...

72. Hellhound
A gigantuan dog as big as a man
with the blackest of coats that I've ever seen
Is standing on guard and looking around
until his own eyes look at me and then down
With eyes like the silhouette of a black star
his face seems sad, sullen and shy
"Come here!" I say and beckon towards me
where he makes his way forward and slumps at my feet
It seems my protectors have come from the dark
to help me confront all the things on my path
With a dog on my left, and a cat on my right
I feel more assured going into the Night...

71. Guardian of the Night
A black cat with red eyes stares down at me
from high apon the roof of the garage
With eyes which fix me right to the spot
eliciting fear from deep down inside
I say a small karakia and see it come forward
sauntering up to me smiling and purring
I reach out and touch it and stroke its black back
but its fur is like wire - as hard as a star
Oh little old pussy who comes from afar
from beyond our own Moon, and perhaps beyond Mars
If an animal like you has been sent to my aid
then my journey must take me, along a knife's blade....

57. Powers of the Night
I leap from my bed and see hundres of moths
who flutter and fall all about my own room
They land on my head, my shoulders and arms
all shades of white and all shades of blue
They cannot stay here I think to myself
and reach for the light switch to bring about dark
They follow the light of the bright shining moon
and make for the window and out into the night
On leaving - the sun, now shines in the room
and choruses of singing is heard from outside
Where there were hundreds of moths I now see
kaumātua or elders singing to me
They sing of the moon and sing of the stars
of songs which delighted me when I was a boy
and a grey haired old man strums a guitar
belting out words amidst smiles and roars
The words of the song perplex me a little
as I hear of a dialect void of an 'f'
and beside me my grand aunt steps into the light
and we watch all our kin of the Pai Mārire faith
Guiding me slowly with love and with light
my elders now sing of the powers of night
They sing of the moon and sing of the stars
and sing, as my tears, fall across my own heart....

54. I am One
Mirror, mirror on the wall
in the dark of sleep, do I look at thee
and in the reflection staring back
are 4 of me all standing tall?!
I stand expressionless but with ease
neither zealous or afraid
I am not angry or astute
am neither happy or even phased
I now 'exist' with balanced form
and with precision begin to move
Prayer circles. rhomboids, squares I make
perfect and in harmony
Far and wide I searched for these
within books and within dreams
I prayed, I read, and knelt with others
hoping all this I would see
But with this 'oneness' I now find
the key to unlock all these doors
Chakras, portals, diamonds, stars
all exist within me now...
